Sold! Art and other adventures

March 17, 2010 was the beginning of my  full-time painting and photography adventure. Starting with oils in my early teen years, I had been working in water colours for years and now decided to return to oils. These were not just any oils but water miscible oil paints. I always liked oil paints but not the toxic odor issues. About the same time, I purchased a good quality camera and began some serious shooting. In between painting and photographing I showed my work in both physical and online venues. To my humble surprise work sold and continues to sell. About 50 paintings and photographs are mostly with collectors in Canada and the U.S.A. But some have found their way to England, Switzerland and Australia. One of these is KEEPING WATCH a 36 x 24 inch of an almost iconic Mayne Island view.

I have now set up a specific SOLD! page at Terrill Welch Artist that has a few of these displayed together – not all as it would be too many – just a few. More of the photography and painting prints that are that have sold can be found in my redbubble storefront gallery where you will also see a gallery with 45 new painting details that have been specifically selected for greeting cards.  My personal favourite in this series is the detail of “Red Romance by the Sea” card.

But then there is the card from “The Sea to Me”

Or how about this one from “Pears by the Sea” ?

If you have an order of more than 16 cards there is a 30% discount which makes if an affordable option to gather a collection to have available for any occasion. With 45 different cards of painting details to choose from I am hoping you will find it easy to find at least 16 that will meet your needs and fill your heart with painting impressions.
It has been a good couple of years and a bit. But what now? A very good question. As midsummer leaves me with a lots of room to contemplate.

I am off on a bit of a solitary painting adventure which I hope shall lead me through to a new understanding and way of expression with paint. But one never knows. Sometimes these explorations just reaffirm and clarify the path we are already on.

However, it is not the paintings themselves that are at issue – rather it is my intention as I create them. When I am working things out like this the paintings are not usually keepers. They remain records and works in progress. Hence, for the most part I am more comfortable sharing bits of them – just so you know I am at work 😉

Thank you all for your patience and here is a detail from one of four painting studies I did over the last couple of days.

Happy Monday to you!

    • Thank you Charles and you are right. I never thought of that. Of course someone could put together a collection to give to another as a gift. What a great idea. I like practical and useable gifts myself. Hum, I REALLY like that idea!

  1. Terrill – Seeing some of the paintings brought back lovely memories of viewing them for the first time. They are exceptional!

And I love the wisdom of this observation: “However, it is not the paintings themselves that are at issue – rather it is my intention as I create them.”

    Solitude

    • Thank you Laurie and I can OH-SO relate to your reply to today’s Sprout question. There are moments in any adventure where I find myself in that liminal place or situated at a sensory threshold when I am neither here nor there. It always seems like a good time to celebrate what has come before as I pause and begin to explore what is next. This post is my attempt at doing this in the company of readers, friends and colleagues.

  2. Thank you so much for this wonderful and inspiring post, Terrill. I thought I was going to write a reply but it turned into a blog post. I’ll link to your post from mine on Thursday.
All the best and happy painting

    • Funny how that happens sometimes! Leanne I look forward to seeing what you are going to post. I will likely not see it until Friday as I am off line most of Thursday – but if you put the link here other readers will be able to get to right away… and I shall trundle on over upon my return to the larger world on Friday.

  3. Terrill,

Congratulations! You work is always so touching, thoughtfully created! You know I love your work and the process. I think your ability to offer your intention while you are painting, and or photographing allows for the viewer, to become a purchaser of the work of art because it has a past and present!

Upon reading this the “little” voice called doubt is trying to talk to me, it has been coming from a number of sources, yet I have been staying one step ahead of it. Which comes to your sprout question: “What is your personal practice when engaging on a new creative learning curve?”
It seems it is to get out there, do my photography, place work in exhibit, promote where and when I can.

    • Yep Jeff – your response to the sprout question seems like a sure fire approach to both the learning curve and that niggling little voice of doubt. Thank as well for your feedback and observation. Being on a new learn spike myself I extra appreciate these words of support.

  4. another good post to read and liked exploring the links….
I had a wee surgery in July and it got infected…I can not sit back in a chair yet…so I am just randomly popping in here and there – healing is my priority right now…so excuse me if I m rather hit of miss these days.
I am randomly thinking about what I want to do when I reach “normal” again…I wish I painted or did some kind of art….without being able to sing anymore I feel at a loss….and although I read, research and analyze with great skill – there still seems to be a void. I do knit socks in the winter time!

    • Seems like a creative door to something new might be looking to be opened in your life Patricia. I wonder what it will be? 🙂 I hope you are recovering nicely now and will soon be ready for exploring what might be coming your way.

      • Yes! I am recovering and I do believe I need to take some more time off ….The headaches are gone, the radiating pain down the arms relieved…the palsy in my hands and arms calming down. The sulfa drug – worked fabulously. I can see clearly now that I need to not rush back in and move slowly into old and new efforts. I am not going to push the river right now.

That said….I just put up a good book review and am working on another of one of the most amazing books I have ever read – ever….I just get to the end and start reading it again.

Enjoying all your posts – though not always commenting any where right now…letting nerves endings recover – fully!

        • With summer Patricia, I haven’t been doing a lot of commenting myself. But like you, I am out and about reading and enjoying – usually at odd hours. I am glad to hear you are on the mend though and totally agree with taking it slow and floating lazily down that river for awhile.
