It has now been five years since the beginning of Creative Potager. Happy WordPress blog birthday to us!
What a journey we have had together!
(Open Studio is 24 x 30 inch oil on canvas and is a new work in the artist’s private collection)
This is the home of sharing this artist’s creative process inspired from her everyday life.
The underbelly of paintings are displayed in all their naked glory.
The design ideas for the fabric that covers these bare-bone canvases is the substance that has graced many of the 538 posts.
Photographs have captured long walks at home,
the rise of a super-moon
and meandering international travel.
And you dear readers have been so much a unique contributor through your comments and shared links. In this way, I feel Creative Potager is a community as much as it is blog. Thank you for being you. Thank you for your support, sharing and collecting of my paintings and photographs. More than 50 paintings and many more photography prints are now in private collections around the world. So, as much as Creative Potager captures a process, it also delivers results. You are so very much a part of making this happen.
But how can we celebrate today? Five years are a survival milestone for a blog and for a small business as an independent artist. How might we honour and recognize this moment?
Well, just as this blog is about the everyday life and work of an artist who frequently invites you simply to sit with her – maybe to celebrate we should do just that?
Feel free to pour a cup of tea and dig into the cookie jar while we reflect. Thank you for pausing with me. Thank you for celebrating this milestone.
Do you have a special Creative Potager moment or memory you would like to share?

First, a hearty congratulations, Terrill. I’m looking forward to another five years (plus) of entertaining and inspirational posts.
I think my favourite post was when you shared your thoughts regarding Emily Carr. Oh, yes and of course the first photos of your grandbaby were delightful.
Thank you Leanne. You have been here from the beginning so I am thrilled that you are the first to comment today. I have several about Emily Carr Leanne but I am going to guess it was this one as you offered what was then called the “Sprout Question” https://creativepotager.com/2010/11/09/emily-carr-mystery-solved and new grandbabies are always fun to share 🙂
Terrill, it’s hard to believe it’s been that long because I remember very well your first post! Laurie Buchanan had written a “review” of it and defined the term Potager for those who had no idea what one might be. Being an avid gardener I felt that I had an idea…that you were writing a blog about Creative Cooking….of vegetable soup! I’ve read and enjoyed many of your posts since then and have even contributed a review or two of my own. Something that I’ve especially enjoyed today was being able to have another look at your work and to see some of them as old Friends. Happy Birthday and Congratulations!
Sometimes I do write about vegetable soup Sandi but yes it is more about a collection of a variety of creative expression grown from our everyday experiences. You certainly have written a review or three and I treasure each one! Thank you for dropping in and being here through the past five years keeping me company in the studio. Most appreciated!
Hi Terrill,
Congratulations on your fifth anniversary blogging! I’ve definitely enjoyed reading your posts and occasionally commenting. This past year’s posts from Europe were a particular delight. I especially liked your photographs from Venice. And of course, we share a love of the west coast and its gorgeous arbutus trees! Look forward to reading more and seeing more of your beautiful work!
Chiarina
Chiarina, in the past few years you have become one of my respected and valued artist colleague. Our work is so closely inspired by the same west coast essence it is as if we are close friends though we have actually never met in person. Thank you for your continued connection here and elsewhere!
Proud of you, Sis! I would have to say that due to us living too far apart for frequent visits, I do truly enjoy being able to look over your shoulder as a painting develops. Thanks for sharing your process, not just the finished product. My favorite photo, for personal reasons, is the one you took of our dad on the back porch of their home. Congratulations on hitting the five year mark with Creative Potager, I have enjoyed the ride. Sue
Thank you Sue and it does seem like a great way for us to have stayed in touch. I love that we have a painting connection as sisters. I will have to give you the photograph of Dad someday. I was going to give it to him for his birthday and then found something else. Maybe Father’s Day 🙂
I’m so glad I found your blog. It’s been a pleasure coming here and being inspired by your prose and your paintings and photography. One of the things I’ve loved most is how you talk about the creative process, and how it parallels so much of what I do as a writer. You’ve inspired me to take up painting as well. I want to experience creating something with “no words.” Thank you.
Deborah I have enjoyed reading your writing and your blog I think as much as you have enjoyed Creative Potager. I like that idea of creating with no words. Yet, I often find a few once the painting is done so I can tell the story behind the work. Maybe not necessary but it is somehow part of my own process – a way to release the work to stand on its own.
Wow. That’s the word that comes to mind as I view and review your photographs of creativity and art. Wow.
Thank you Pam and it is a journey that I have found and find great pleasure in traveling:)
Happy 5th Blogging Anniversary and Best Wishes for many, many more. I’m a recent follower and enjoy your posts tremendously.
Gretchen welcome to Creative Potager where new readers are welcomed like old friends. I feel honoured that you would dedicate some of your precious time to the blog posts here. A pleasure to have you along on this adventure!
happy, Happy, HAPPY 5th birthday Creative Potager Bog!
It’s been so fun for me to watch you paint not only from your home studio, but during your international travels as well. THANK YOU for taking us readers along on your adventures 🙂
You are so welcome Laurie. As one of my most consistent readers who has likely not missed a post in the past five years, I can say that the pleasure of our blogging friendship has been equally as much mine 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing the link to your writing about Emily Carr. I had remembered much of your well-written, thought provoking post, but had forgotten my comment.
Well, there you go! A gem you offered and then enjoyed finding again Leanne 🙂
Congrats Terrill! I not only toasted you and your wonderful 5 years of blogging your art, I also had a big cookie for YOU! :o)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, your process and your amazing works of art with the world.
Big hugs, Barbara
Thank you Barbara! You are most welcome and it is a pleasure to connect with you here and also in person from time to time. All the best to you in 2015!
