Baby O arrives in about six weeks

Baby O is due March 4, 2011 but we all know that babies mostly arrive when they are ready. Saturday I caught the 7:45 am ferry to Swartz Bay and drove up Vancouver Island to Mill Bay where my daughter and her husband live. Josie was celebrating her thirtieth birthday with munchies and cake in the party room at the Duncan recreational pool. Everyone brought swim suits. Great fun! I liked the lazy river and the wave pool best.

While I was there we also did a photo shoot. So now I can update you with some new images on the progress of Baby O. We went to some of the same places that I took some of the first photographs at the end of September if you want to compare. Plus, there is another Baby O post from early November that you can have a look at as well.

Josie has been fortunate in that she has been healthy and active throughout her pregnancy. The day I arrived she went kayaking to referee a water polo game in the bay. A few days before that she was out on a rugged 7 km hike.

What was really amazing about taking these photographs was how different Josie’s belly looks in each image. Just so you know. These images were taken back to back on the same day.

Though the day was heavy with cloud and mist it had its own magic.

We visited as we walked and stopped to take photographs. One of my goals was to capture Josie in her natural environment doing everyday things that she enjoys. Which is hard to do because she enjoys so much! Teaching physics, cooking, hiking, kayaking just to name a few favourite activities.

Both the expecting mom and dad are prepared and excited about the coming adventure with Baby O. Oh! And so are the grandparents!

Visiting Baby O

Sunday at 8:15 am I was on the ferry to Swartz Bay. By 10:30 am I greeted my daughter and her husband at their home in Mill Bay. I was just in time for a waffle brunch.

My mom and dad, each of my children and me each have one of these cast iron antique stovetop waffle irons. They were designed for using on top of a wood cook stove but we use them on any heat source.

They make the best waffles.

Afterwards we went on a hike in Maple Bay.

Baby O has had quite the adventures before entering the world from long hikes, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking and snorkeling in the Gulf of Mexico. I will laugh very hard if once here, we are introduced to a couch potato who says… “Oh, been there done that!” to all outdoor activity.

Leaning on a beautiful arbutus Josie is her usual relaxed and happy self.

I am particularly fond of this black and white.

Baby O is 22 weeks or about half way to time of birth.

Baby O

We have, as many of you know, many children. We also had a few weddings this past summer. One of these weddings has resulted in what used to be a common place event – the arrival of a bump.

With only a simple request, I was able to talk this lovely young woman into a photo shoot to capture these early days of the development of baby O.

Next the rocks with her natural blonde streak more pronounced than usual.

And just hanging out at the beach.

These photos were then sent to the soon-t0-be dad’s parents who are far away. The due date for baby O is March 4th but we all know babies are born when they are ready.

There are many reasons why I might hesitate to post this time of wonder and celebration. However, I feel compelled to push forward anyway. I am happy to share with you, that I am looking forward to being a grandmother again.
