Winter fog in the southern gulf islands is often dense and close to the sea. Islands appear and disappear as the ferries take passengers through the inside passage. The mysterious landscape has a beauty that is hard to know unless one lives with it for the long winter months of off-season quiet. This 12 x 24 inch oil on canvas is my rendering of this tactile west coast Canadian landscape experience.

As many of you already know, I have been away for eight days adding an extra set of helping hands to my daughter’s family. Our youngest 3 month old grandson was very sick and in the hospital on oxygen for a week with a respiratory virus. He is now recovered and is back to his usual happy smiling and giggling self. I am back home on Mayne Island and will be picking up the threads of my regular activities. However, I must go off on Saturday and facilitate a workshop in the Fraser Valley. So my best guess is that a new post will not appear on Creative Potager until Monday or Tuesday. Hence, I have reblogged the latest painting release from Terrill Welch Artist this morning. May you all be well and I look forward to our conversations in the future.
Terrill- I am very sorry to hear about your youngest grandson’s hospital stay, though I am thrilled to hear all is now well. Likewise I can well understand you have a busy upcoming schedule. Best of luck with the Fraser Valley workshop. The ‘Fog Inside Passage’ painting is an atmospheric treasure that is transporting. Have a great weekend.
You too Sam! I missed your Monday Diary post again this week but hope to drop in to the up coming contribution.
It’s pretty scary when the little ones get so sick, but thankfully they tend to bounce back quickly – I’m glad all is well now with your grandson. Your painting above is so calming, reminding me of the colors of Cape Cod fog in the winter. Sometimes the off-season by the sea can be so much more compelling.
It is so true Barbara they do tend to recover quickly and such is the case with this wee one. So nice to see. Yes I agree with you about the how compelling the off-season by the sea can be. We have had a very mild though grey wet winter. The days like in this painting have been many. Always makes me think of damp wool, rubber boots, hot tea, a wood fire and a good book. Yet, I seldom where my rubber boots, we don’t have an indoor wood stove and I most often paint instead of read during daylight hours 🙂
