Promise of Summer

As the grasses begin to head, even the cool weather can’t deny the promise of summer.

The first fawn of the year moves in the shadows.

We take to the beach for an afternoon weekend read.

There is a heron fishing in the shallows.

Finally it catches a dinner.

We promise ourselves many more days like this – it is the promise of summer.

Sprout question: What is your promise of summer?

Rocks

Some days like yesterday, rocks play a prominent role in photo shoot. There are those in a spot of sun deep in the forest floor.

There are those providing a backdrop for an old fir tree.

There are those clustered together on shore.

Then there are those providing a foamy footpath for Surfbirds.

Rocks – all of them sandstone rocks.

Sprout question: What is prominent in your creativity today?

High Tide

Saturday was a bright day with patches of blue providing the perfect background for puffy snow clouds. We decided to go for a walk but the water was too high to get onto the beaches.

It was beautiful just the same with a fresh new view of a familiar scene.

Sprout question: What recent change has given you a new view?

P.S. Just so you know, it is the last day of 15% off canvas and framed prints for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday and the days in between at my redbubble storefront.

Washed Smooth

The heaviness of the cloud pushes down until I hunch under its dreary weight. West coast winter has arrived. Last nights winds were an early warning of what is yet to come. Today is smoldering quiet. Only small birds twitter in the trees as we walk.

I cast my eyes south,

then north along the shore,

stopping my roving gaze only when I look west and settle upon the smooth sandstone washed clean by years of waves.

I notice one small leaf also sitting in deviance.

Sprout question: What might you like to wash smooth?

Within

This wave won’t take your breath away as it crashes to shore. It is going to swish over the sandstone and reach in near your heart, gently releasing, easing back to sea, only to reach forward again, and again. Let your worries and fears go with it. Fill with its strength each time the wave reaches forward. Be within.

Sprout question: What is your heart wanting to create?

Rising

From dark thick beginnings “Rising” has been sculptured into existence as the sea gives way to the rising sun. An 8 X 10 inch water miscible oil painting on gessobord with two-inch birch cradle.
